Can AI models understand subjective visual qualities such as beauty, without reducing them to universalized metrics?
My talk at the 2026 MIT AI Conference Research Slam was centered around that very question. Drawing on my research on subjective urban evaluation, I demonstrated how individualized scales can be used to meaningfully capture and compute ambiguous concepts that lack standardized definitions.
